Yeah….Blizzard 2015 is one for the ages. Worcester sets its all-time snowfall total for a storm (34.5″), Blue Hill observatory picked up 30.8″ of snow—their 2nd highest total since 1885 while Boston was just flurries away from this being a top 5 event (24.6″….needed 25.0″ to make it a top 5er). The amount of snow was—24-36″ was so expansive across southern New England is what makes this a unique storm—even Cape Cod had 24″ of snow. Remarkable.
OK…..we’re moving on to the next storm. It’s a clipper–not a blizzard and it swings through the region on Friday with a burst of light snow. By now we’re professionals when it comes to dealing with snow & snow removal so–we’ve got this. First flakes arrive around 3-4am on Friday and persist in a patchy & light nature for much of the morning. Most towns pick up 1-3″ of snow but up on the North Shore and the NH seacoast there could be as much as 3-5″ of snow by Friday evening.
The weekend is loaded with brilliant sunshine but chilly temps. Some great weather for skiing, sledding and also raking the roof (or raising, whichever). I do suggest businesses with flat roofs to clear snow as it appears another big winter storm is slated for Monday. As of now it appears this will be a wetter storm—one with rain, mix & snow. The snow is likely to be a heavy-wet variety which will add weight to those roofs. The amount of snow does appear to be plowable (but not 24-36″ of it)
