BOSTON (WHDH) - The seventh and final suspect connected to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing was sentenced in court Tuesday.

In March, Merhawi Berhe pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm with the serial number removed.

The gun was used by Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to kill MIT Police Officer Sean Collier three days after the Marathon bombing.

Berhe, 22, gave the weapon to Stephen Silva, who then gave it to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

He was sentenced to six months in federal prison.

“He’s doing fine, he’s a good kid, he’s grown up a lot, and he’s going to continue to work hard and he understands that everybody had a job to do,” Berhe’s attorney said.

His attorney asked for no jail time for Berhe, because he said there was no way Berhe could have known that the illegal weapon would be used in connection with the crime.

Judge William Young said illegal guns are so dangerous in our society that those who possess or transfer them must face jail time.

Berhe, who has been under house arrest, will be allowed to self-report to a federal prison in September.

He will then be under two years supervised release.
