A patient has sued Yale New Haven Hospital for an apparent medical mix-up.
The patient said that doctors removed the wrong rib during surgery last year, and the then surgeon-in-training tried to cover up the mistake, so she would consent to another surgery the same day.
The lawsuit said this happened even though the correct rib was marked with metal coils and dye prior to the procedure.
"Dr. Quarrie, who took the wrong rib out the first time, was actually involved in the second surgery after being specifically asked by my clients not to have anything to do with her anymore because they felt he was incompetent," said Joel Faxon of the Faxon Law Group.
Yale Hospital released a statement saying it hopes to learn from its mistakes and minimize the chance of it happening again.
