WALTHAM, MASS. (WHDH) - WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) — State police say a person walking in a travel lane of Route 128 in Waltham has been struck by several vehicles and killed.

Police say the victim was in the second lane from the right on the southbound side at about 10:20 p.m. Thursday when struck by a car driven by a 61-year-old man. After being hit by the first vehicle, several others then struck the pedestrian. None of the drivers was injured and all stopped.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pedestrian’s name was not immediately released.

Police are still investigating why the person was walking on the busy highway.

Troopers did not locate any nearby abandoned vehicles that might have belonged to the pedestrian.
