WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car while crossing a major road in Warwick Wednesday evening, police said.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. on Bald Hill Road. Police say they found a 53-year-old man lying in the road unresponsive.

He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the driver and several witnesses stopped after the crash and are cooperating.

The department said speed, impairment and distracted driving do not appear to be factors, but noted the area is dimly lit.

Police are asking anyone with any more information about the crash, including other witnesses, to contact its traffic division.
