PEPPERELL, MASS. (WHDH) - A former Pepperell police officer will not face jail time for using excessive force on a woman back in September of 2015.

Armando Herrera, 53, plead guilty to charges that he strangled a woman who was in a holding cell.

A judge gave him a suspended sentence that will keep him on probation for three years.

Herrera resigned from the force after the incident.
