NEWTON, Mass. (WHDH) — A pig in Newton decided to go hog wild and escape from his pen Friday afternoon.

Ziggy is hard to miss at 40 lbs., but he managed to give his owners the slip for about an hour while he walked around the neighborhood.

“He muscled a snow blower out of the way and just walked on through and decided to take a stroll through the neighborhood,” Ziggy’s owner Ron Seested Jr. said.

George Seested said he saw the mailman around the same time he noticed Ziggy had escaped.

“I asked him ‘did you see a pig?’ He said ‘as a matter of fact a Newton cop just asked me that,’” George recalled.

The Seesteds found their pig about two blocks away, hamming it up with the neighbors.

“Everyone was laughing at it, some of the girls when we first arrived were throwing him carrots; they'd never seen a pig before,” George said.

Ziggy was eventually corralled back into his pen, his owners said he’s now the unofficial mascot of the otherwise quiet Newton neighborhood.
