A pilot was taken to the hospital after his small plane crashed Saturday afternoon at Plymouth Airport.

State Police said they received a 911 call to report that the plane had crashed shortly after takeoff. Responding officers found the plane upside-down on its roof. The FAA said the pilot was practicing taking off and landing at the airport.

The pilot, a dentist from Rockland, was the only person on board the plane. He was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston with serious injuries but they are not believed to be life-threatening.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
