PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man has been convicted of raping a teenage girl.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that 43-year-old Omar Enriquez, of Pittsfield, was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday after three hours of deliberations of three counts of rape of a child aggravated by an age difference.

Prosecutors say Enriquez, a trusted adult in the child’s life, began assaulting her when she was 14 and still in middle school. The victim, now 18, testified the assaults occurred up to three times a week.

Enriquez testified in his own defense to say he and girl had sex once in October 2016, when she was 16, the age of consent in Massachusetts.

Enriquez was tried on the rape charges in July, but a mistrial was declared.

He faces sentencing Thursday.
