BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Police in Connecticut say they have arrested a driver who sped off during a traffic stop and slammed into a car, killing another motorist.

State and local police say the driver was not being pursued Thursday when he crashed in Bridgeport. Police say his car first hit another vehicle, killing the female driver, then careened into a pedestrian and another person who might have been on a bicycle, injuring both of them.

Police say the driver ran off and was later tracked to the basement of a nearby home, where he was arrested.

Police have not identified the woman who was killed.
