WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Worcester police say one person was shot and 18 youths and young men were arrested at the city’s Latin Festival last weekend.
Those arrested Saturday range in age from 15 to 21 and face a variety of charges from assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct, possession of a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest.
Police say they continually monitored large groups of rival youth gangs that formed in the vicinity of the festival. Officers dispersed disorderly youth that began congregating and taunting each other in apparent attempts to start a fight.
Officers responding to the sound of gunshots found an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Police also arrested a 17-year-old youth they say had a 12-inch long kitchen knife.
