BRANFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut State Police say a 4-year-old Hamden boy was killed and a 15-year-old East Haven boy was injured when the stolen car they were in crashed after a police pursuit.

Police responded to the crash on U.S. Route 1 in Branford near an Interstate 95 off-ramp around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

It began when East Haven police tried make a traffic stop for motor vehicle violations.

But the driver of the 2016 Toyota Corolla took off and police pursued the vehicle onto I-95 before breaking off the chase.

When the car got off the highway onto Route 1 it crashed into a Honda Element. Three occupants of the Corolla got out and ran way.

The driver was later found, but police continue to investigate.
