PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (AP) — A police report says the man charged with entering a Rhode Island high school with a knife and attacking a teacher told students he was in charge and ordered them to line up against the wall.

Marcus Schlip faces several charges including felony assault after police say he forced his way into the Portsmouth High School gym on Tuesday. He is a former student at the school.

The Providence Journal reports that the police report says teacher Risha Pellegrino demanded that he leave.

Student witnesses told police the 22-year-old Schlip struck Pellegrino in the face and kicked her. A knife was found in his backpack.

Schlip was ordered to a psychiatric hospital at his arraignment. He didn’t enter a plea. His lawyer would only say he is “a patient.”
