LOWELL, MASS. (WHDH) - Police say they have made an arrest in connection with the death of a woman in Lowell over the weekend.

Amirilies Huertas-Perez, 23 of Worcester, was arraigned in Lowell District Court on Tuesday. Huertas-Perez pleaded “not guilty.”

Huertas-Perez has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Police said they are still searching for other suspects.

Prosecutors say, Gloribel Orengo, 44, was fatally beaten, and then run over with a car, outside of an apartment complex in Lowell on Nov. 19.

Prosecutors said she was run over by a car that took off from the scene.

Prosecutors said the car, which was reported stolen, later crashed a house in Northborough.

Authorities say Orengo was one of several people involved in a fight outside a home after being asked to leave a party.

Orengo was rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Friends and family were heartbroken over the loss of Orengo. Relatives wiped away tears in court and wept openly outside over Orengo’s death.

Orengo’s family, grieving what they say was an unnecessary fight and loss of a loved one, say Orengo was beaten right in front of her 28-year-old special needs son.
