BOSTON (WHDH) - Police departments throughout Massachusetts are showing solidarity with the Dallas Police department following an attack on officers during protests Thursday night.

Across the region, several police departments posted their support on Facebook and Twitter. We’ve compiled some of those messages below.

Governor Charlie Baker ordered flags to half-staff for five days and released a statement.

“My heart breaks for the families and loved ones of the innocent who lost their lives this week in Minnesota, Louisiana and Texas and I hope our nation can come together after a tumultuous and difficult period for so many across the country.  Last night’s deadly attacks on Dallas law enforcement represent a senseless and heinous crime against our brave first responders who put their lives at risk every day to keep our communities safe.  Our administration is in constant communication with federal and local partners to ensure the safety and security of our communities in the Commonwealth.”

The Lowell Police department called for a moment of silence at 1 p.m., saying that all LPD officers will pause for 20 seconds of silent reflection.

Police officers across New Hampshire are sharing in the grief over the sniper shootings in Dallas that killed five officers and injured seven others during a peaceful protest.

In Portsmouth, the department tweeted its heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the officers and their families in such a horrible time, “all for merely doing their jobs.”

Democratic U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen called the needless violence “heartbreaking.” Republican U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte said when officers fall in the line of duty, “we know we can never repay that sacrifice.”

Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan said pictures before the shootings that showed police and protesters working peacefully together are a reminder “of the professionalism, passion, and fundamental goodwill” of officers and citizens.
