A driver was arrested after police said she struck a 5-year-old girl and her grandmother in Worcester Wednesday afternoon.
Police were called to the area of Major Taylor Boulevard at around 1:30 p.m. for a report of a serious crash. Police said a 33-year-old woman from Worcester driving a green Ford Explorer was chasing a car driven by a 42-year-old man. The woman was allegedly chasing the man after a domestic incident.
“Apparently there was an argument,” said Worcester Police Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst. “They were in separated vehicles and driving…during this altercation one vehicle struck the other, then lost control and struck the pedestrians.”
The woman allegedly struck the back of the man’s truck while turning from Foster Street onto Major Taylor Boulevard. The woman then lost control of her car and police said she hit the girl and her grandmother on the sidewalk outside of St. Vincent Hospital, where they were waiting for a bus.
The girl and her grandmother were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Explorer was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation is ongoing. Police said the woman driving the Ford Explorer was charged with domestic assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and malicious destruction of property.
