WRENTHAM, Mass. (AP) — Police say a grenade found near a donation box in Massachusetts over the weekend turned out to be inactive.

The Sun Chronicle reports that the grenade caused some concern when it was found Sunday near an American Legion donation box in Wrentham. Police, firefighters and the state police bomb unit responded to the scene and created a perimeter.

Trooper Stephen Sicard Jr. X-rayed the grenade and determined it was inert. Authorities say the device was a Mark 2 grenade husk.

Officials removed the grenade from the scene.
