ROXBURY, Mass. (WHDH) – Crisis counselors will be on hand today at Harvard-Kent Elementary School after a man was shot and killed on Thursday right in front of a school bus with the students inside.

The fatal shooting, likely caused by a fight according to police, happened in front of a school bus in the area near Zeigler and Dearborn Streets.

Nearly half a mile away, another shooting happened about a half mile away from the first. Police said the shooting left a car riddled with bullet holes near Aspen and Dunreath streets.

Police have not said if the two shootings are connected.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said at around 5:30 p.m., a police officer was flagged down after a fight near Zeigler and Dearborn streets. Witnesses said they heard gunshots. An adult man with gunshot wounds was taken to Boston Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Boston Public Schools said three children and a bus driver were on a school bus nearby when the shooting happened. It is not known how much the children saw.

“We are looking for the public’s help,” said Evans. “It’s alarming to me. It’s broad daylight and we have a school bus here with kids close by.”
