Chelsea Police and Massachusetts State Police are investigating what they are considering a "suspicious death" in Chelsea.
According to Chelsea Police, 34-year-old Alex Perez-Lapop of Chelsea was found badly beaten, lying on a sidewalk in front of 83 Cottage Street Sunday morning.
Chelsea police officers in the area for an unrelated call were approached just before 5 a.m. by a witness who said there was an unresponsive man on the sidewalk.
The man, whose name is not being released, was transported to Whidden Hospital in Everett and was later pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation of the body did not reveal obvious signs of violent trauma. An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause and manner of death.
