NEW BEDFORD, MASS. (WHDH) - An Acushnet man was killed after police said he was struck by a car in New Bedford Thursday evening.

Police said the 57-year-old man was crossing Cove Street when he was struck. His friend Rick Rapoza, who had just been having dinner with him at a nearby restaurant, said he was shocked when someone ran inside to call 911.

“When we got outside, he was laying there, already bleeding,” said Rapoza. “But we didn’t think he died.”

The driver, a New Bedford woman, remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police did not say if she will face any charges.
