NORWALK, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man who allegedly expressed interest in mass shootings last year has been charged with an unrelated assault, police said.
Brandon Wagshol, 22, was charged with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief. Norwalk police said he pushed a person into a wall inside the apartment complex where he lives and hit them with a pipe early Saturday morning.
The alleged assault left a “large laceration” on the victim’s head, police said.
Wagshol was arrested in August after authorities received a tip that he was trying to buy large-capacity rifle magazines out of state. An investigation revealed he had shown an interest in mass shootings as early as sixth grade, according to a search warrant. Authorities said they seized firearms, body armor and other items from Wagshol’s home.
He was charged with four counts of illegal possession of large capacity ammunition magazines. He was released on a $250,000 bond but ordered to wear an ankle bracelet and remain under house arrest.
Wagshol’s attorney, Darnell Crosland, told The Norwalk Hour that his client has been in compliance with the conditions of his release and that it is “too early to tell” if he’s responsible in the latest arrest.
Wagshol is being held on $500,000 bond and will be arraigned on the new charges Monday. The next court date for his earlier case is set for Feb. 20.
