Police are looking for a man accused of taking inappropriate photos of a young girl at a Haverhill supermarket.

Surveillance cameras capture a young girl shopping in the cookie aisle with her mother when they were startled by a stranger getting too close.

“You can see him nearby taking a look. It appears he’s getting up the courage,” said an official.

Police said the man had a cell phone in his hand. When the mom looked away, police said he took a picture up the girl’s skirt.

“She thought the person had brushed up or touched her child,” said an official.

The surveillance cameras show the man following the mother and daughter from aisle to aisle for 26 minutes before taking the photograph.

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the man.

“There’s tons of creeps out there. You have to be vigilant as a parent,” said Kim Nelson.

“Horrible. I have kids. Little ones. It’s not right, not right. I wish I recognized this guy, but I don’t,” said Sheila Fitzgerald.

Police said he left the store after taking the photograph. Before he left, the suspect had a brief exchange with the mother. The police report says she asked him if he touched her daughter and he said he was sorry.

Police said the man could face several charges.
