WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) — Police say a man has been charged with stealing donation bins meant for a murdered woman’s family in Maine.

WGME-TV reports 31-year-old Christopher Hodges was charged with theft on Saturday for stealing two donation bins that were intended to benefit the family of Melissa Sousa, of Waterville.

According to court documents, Sousa was fatally shot by her boyfriend, Nicholas Lovejoy.

Lovejoy claims he shot Sousa in self-defense after she allegedly pushed him down a staircase and tried to shoot him.

Police say Hodges was identified through surveillance footage. He was at the Kennebec County Jail on an unrelated probation violation.
