WHATELY, Mass. (AP) — A New York City man is under arrest in Massachusetts after allegedly leading police on a roughly 10-mile pursuit and tossing heroin out his car window.

Authorities say police deployed tire-deflation devices to stop 36-year-old George Flores in the town of Whately (WAYTE’-lee) on Wednesday afternoon.

Police, acting on a tip that he was delivering heroin to western Massachusetts, tried to pull him over in nearby Northampton at about 5 p.m., but he sped away. Authorities say as he was driving he threw suspected heroin with a street value of $50,000 out of his car window.

Flores is scheduled to be arraigned on related charges Thursday. It could not be determined if he has a lawyer.
