MILLBURY, MASS. (WHDH) - Police said the wife of a Millbury K-9 police officer fabricated a story about a break-in, theft, and graffiti tagging.

According to officials, Maria Daley reported a break-in at her home. Daley said the house was ransacked in the middle of the night while everyone was sleeping and that $10,000 worth of jewelry was stolen. She even allegedly tagged her own house with graffiti that said “BLM” (Black Lives Matter).

Police questioned her story when their police dog did not react at all during the alleged theft. Daley later confessed to the story being false.

The Millbury Police Chief says the assumption is that the officer’s wife made up claims due to financial difficulty and that her husband did not know anything about her plan.

Daley faces charges of filing a false police report and misleading police. No charges are being filed against her husband, who has been on the police force for 12 years.
