Police in Fort Collins, Colorado, are praising a young boy they say turned in cash after he found it in a store parking lot.

The selfless act is getting a lot of attention and the boy hopes it gets returned to its rightful owner.

So far, no one has come forward to claim it.

“Because you never know when you’re going to find something on the ground,” 8-year-old Bridger Yett said.

Yett finds money from time to time.

“I found many quarters, nickels, dimes, stuff like that,” he said.

He never thought he’d find as much money as he did on Monday.

“No. Not in 100 years,” he said.

Police in Colorado won’t say how much money he found, but it was enough to make the Cub Scout think.

“I did not do anything for it,” he said. “I just found it on the ground.”

Bridger’s mother, Laura, said the pair went to customer services, who said someone had been in earlier looking for the money, but didn’t leave any contact information.

“I knew it was not mine and I could not spend it,” Bridger said. “I would feel so guilty if I spent it.”

Bridger asked his mom to take him to the police station, where they promised to help find the money’s rightful owners.

“Because they could be using it for housing payments or something like that, bills,” Bridger said.

He wants to remind anyone who finds money on the ground it could be for someone who really needed it.

“It could be something for the baby or food,” he said. “Unless it’s really small. If it’s over $10, yes. Turn it in.”

Bridger’s good deed might pay off, as police say he will get the cash if it’s not claimed after about 40 days.
