ARLINGTON, MASS. (WHDH) - Arlington Police rescued a man from Mystic Lake Wednesday morning after he allegedly tried to swim while under the influence of drugs.

Around 10:35 a.m. police responded to a call for a swimmer in distress.

According to police, the first responding officer could head a man yelling for help in the middle of the lake near Beverly Road.

Officers and firefighters deployed a life boat and went out in the water.

As they approached the swimmer, he became combative and resisted rescue efforts. Rescuers eventually found that he was naked in the water.

Once rescued they had to keep him from jumping out of the boat.

The 20-year-old Arlington man is known to police.

He was taken to a Boston hospital by ambulance.

An officer sustained a knee injury during the rescue effort.
