MALDEN, MASS. (WHDH) - Malden Police Department and the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) are searching for the owner of a chihuahua bearing several signs of abuse, after he was found abandoned near a bike trail in Malden.
The ARL said a good Samaritan found Bailey along the East Coast Greenway trail and brought the dog to the Malden Police Department. The police then transferred Bailey to the ARL’s Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center for treatment.
Police said Bailey was sick, suffering from severe fur loss and was very underweight.
“We are very disturbed at this. We feel that this person knew what they were doing, and they should have reached out to the proper authorities to get this dog some help,” said a Malden Police officer. “There are plenty of opportunities and places that will accept an animal, and it is unacceptable to leave a dog like that in that condition.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact ARL Law Enforcement at (617) 426-9170 x110 or email cruelty@arlboston.org; or the Malden Police Department.
The ARL said that Bailey is not currently up for adoption as he will need time to heal.
