Police are searching for two suspects after they allegedly assaulted a student on on the UMass-Amherst campus on Thursday night and triggered a shelter-in-place order.

UMass, in a statement, said the alert was issued after two people were involved in an armed assault on a student in Pierpont Hall and fled campus.
Police are pursuing leads, according to the university.
The university says a handgun was displayed during the incident at around 5:17 p.m. in Pierpont Hall at the campus.
Police believe the suspects targeted the victim and that they know the victim.
The suspects are not believed to be UMass students, according to the university.
The assault victim suffered a head laceration and is being treated at a hospital in Northhampton.
The shelter-in-place- was lifted at around 7 p.m.
On Thursday evening, the university issued its first alert about an armed person on campus.
UMass-Amherst later issued suspect descriptions.
