Police shot and killed a man they say was armed on Friday morning as they were serving warrants against him.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 33-year-old Randolph McClain and said officers were serving five warrants for him when the shooting occurred at around 8:30 a.m.
Police said McClain was wanted for threats and violating several restraining orders.
Authorities say McClain threatened officers as they arrived at his home by telling them he had a gun and would kill them. McClain had allegedly threatened his former girlfriend and her family with a gun recently, according to Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.
Blodgett said McClain then fled the house through a second-floor window after pointing a gun at an officer.
McClain then allegedly stopped a car a woman was driving on Nichols Avenue and got inside. McClain then allegedly pointed a gun at officers, and police opened fire on him.
McClain was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say they found the gun McClain pointed at them on the scene.
The incident is now under investigation.
