BRAINTREE, MASS. (WHDH) - Police arrested a driver accused of hitting and killing a woman before taking off Thursday in Braintree.

Police said the woman was hit Thursday afternoon at around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Shaw and Commercial streets. A front grill to a 2000-2002 Mazda 626 sedan was left at the scene.

Irina Hyde, 62, was rushed to South Shore Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

“She was just on her way to get her citizenship,” said Hyde’s husband, Tony Hyde. The couple had been married for five years. “She was the kindest, most beautiful woman I ever met. It was a pleasure being her husband, everyone loved her.”

The suspect, a 30-year-old Braintree man, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death and will be arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court.
