PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Prosecutors say a retired U.S. Navy officer has been indicted for allegedly enticing a minor and distributing and possessing child pornography.
Rhode Island U.S. Attorney Aaron Weisman said 49-year-old Ronald Zenga, of Middletown, Rhode Island, was indicted by a federal grand jury Tuesday.
Zenga, who retired in 2017, was stationed at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport. His defense attorneys didn’t immediately respond to email messages seeking comment.
Zenga was detained on child pornography charges after his home was searched last year.
Weisman says the ongoing investigation led to the seven-count indictment.
Weisman says Zenga is accused of transporting a minor to Texas, Florida and Cuba and repeatedly coercing a minor to engage in illicit sexual activity. The charges stem from behavior while actively serving and following his retirement.
