QUINCY, MASS. (WHDH) - Massachusetts residents are remembering Pearl Harbor on the 75th anniversary.
More than 2,000 people died in the surprise attack carried out by Japan on our naval fleet.
One hero, from the Boston area, was just 19 when the attack happened.
Bill Keith, 94 of Quincy, was honored by friends, family and several service men and women.
Keith, just 19 at the time, was serving on the USS West Virginia when the Japanese started raining terror down on Keith and thousands of soldiers and sailors stationed at Pearl Harbor.
Keith was too tired to say much today, but his wife Barbara said it was many years before he could speak about the attack.
At the Brookdale apartment complex in Quincy, Keith sat with his family watching the main anniversary program streamed in from Hawaii.
It was a twist of fate that kept Keith off the USS Arizona, where nearly all the 1,100 soldiers on board died. Keith was unable to swim, so he was stationed on the West Virginia.
