MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — A holiday weekend storm bringing rain and late-season snow is causing flooding and knocking out power in Vermont.
Utilities say about 1,000 customers were without power Saturday night and that total could increase overnight as cold rain turns to wet snow.
Flooding has already covered some roadways and flood warnings are in effect in Chittenden, Lamoille, Franklin, Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans counties.
Gov. Peter Shumlin says transportation and emergency management agencies are prepared to respond.
A trace to 3 inches of snow could fall in some areas with more in upper elevations.
