Police have arrested a Randolph man for allegedly having 230 grams of cocaine shipped to him inside Christmas decorations.
Nonso Obiora, 28, was arraigned in Dorchester Municipal Court on Wednesday and held on $250,000 bail, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities say a UPS worker alerted Customers and Border Protection agents last week after they received a package from Colombia. Agents discovered that the ends of the tubes inside the package were solid and heavy. After inspecting the package, agents found 230 grams of what they believe is cocaine, according to the DA’s office.
Authorities then arranged to have the package delivered to its intended Dorchester destination on Monday.
However, nobody answered the door when the package was delivered to the Dorchester home, the DA’s office said. On Tuesday, a woman at the Dorcehster home answered the door when the package was again delivered. The woman said that another man told him to expect it, the DA’s office said.
Police then told the woman the shipment contained cocaine.
Police then had the woman to arrange for the intended recipient to pickup the package, the DA’s office said. The intended recipient picked up the package at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the DA’s office.
Police arrested the intended recipient, whom they say is Obiora, according to the DA’s office.
The suspect will return to court on Jan. 5.
