Records all across the board, getting SMASHED on this Christmas Eve day – and I don’t mean on eggnog! Okay, that was a bad joke – but you’ve heard worse, I’m sure. This doesn’t look ANYTHING like Christmas, with temps soaring into the upper 60s today and even up to 70° for a few spots (Norwood and Beverly). This IS bizarre, but I’m not going to tell you I didn’t love it. It was even a bit muggy today, prompting us to dig the "Frizz Factor" graphic out of hibernation. While I am worried about some of the bulbs and blooms that came out of hibernation early, in the midst of all of this season-confusion, I’m not worried about winter’s complete disappearance. Rest assured for all of you snow-loves, not all hope is lost for winter! The high temp for Christmas last year was 59°, and we all know what happened after that…
It’s a mild night ahead of us under partly cloudy skies. Santa may not even need the assistance of Rudolph’s nose, since the moon is 99% full! The "Full Cold Moon" will be full at 6:11am tomorrow, and this is the first full moon on Christmas since 1977 – and won’t happen again until 2034. Nature’s flashlight, lighting the way! Where Rudolph may come in handy is for houses along the South Coast, Cape and islands. There is a Dense Fog Advisory posted for those areas through 9am tomorrow. Lows overnight 45-55°.
We’re mild and dry for Christmas Day! Just not as WARM as today… Highs will be in the mid to upper 50s again – with some spots breaking into the low 60s (SE Mass). Probably not breaking records tomorrow (Boston’s Christmas record is 65°, set in 1889. BUT if we’re going for records again, it could happen on Sunday!
Saturday is the cooler of the two weekend days, with mostly cloudy skies and highs in the mid to upper 40s. Then another BOOST in temps on Sunday! We’re looking at some wet weather overnight Saturday into Sunday, but it’s rain again with temps around 20 degrees above normal. Highs on Sunday will top out in the mid to upper 50s – even 60°+ in some spots. What is GOING ON?!
Well, we’re turning the "warmth" into "winter" as we head into next week. Monday’s highs are only in the mid to upper 30s (what a change) – and this day also features a chilly NW wind. Tuesday is where things get tricky: We still have a few days to nail down the details, but for now it looks like this event starts out at SNOW and then changes to rain along the coast. This could even be PLOWABLE snow for inland areas… so we’re gearing up for our first encounter with winter weather. Tuesday is the day to watch – and we are watching it closely, so keep it right here and stay tuned…
But for now, Merry MILD Christmas!! – Breezy
