BOSTON (AP) — A man originally from Massachusetts has been killed by a lightning strike while camping in Australia, according to local media reports.

Sam Beattie and his girlfriend Michele Segalla, both originally from Duxbury, were camping on top of Mount Warning in northern New South Wales on Monday.

Australian authorities say the 24-year-old Beattie was killed instantly when lighting struck a tree he was standing next to.

Segalla received neck and head injuries and waited by her boyfriend’s body for several hours before help came. Camping is not allowed on the mountain top.

The couple was living in New York and Beattie worked in finance.

According to his LinkedIn page, Beattie graduated from Duxbury High School in 2010 and the University of Denver last year.
