CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (WHDH) - The resident of a Cambridge house that caught on fire Wednesday morning has died after going into cardiac arrest inside the burning home, officials said.
Crews responding to a reported fire at 34 Buckingham St. around 5:30 a.m. found a woman unconscious and in cardiac arrest on the second floor of the burning home, according to a Cambridge fire official.
She was transported to an area hospital, where the Department of Fire Services says she succumbed to her injuries.
Three firefighters were also hospitalized, including one with a leg injury and another with a shoulder injury.
The third injured firefighter was hurt when a ceiling in the house collapsed, the fire official said.
Crews got the flames under control in about 45 minutes but remain on scene battling hot spots.
The back of the home sustained extensive damage but the chief says the house is not considered a total loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
