CONCORD, MASS. (WHDH) - Cleanup continued Monday after a tornado touched down in Concord, leaving a mess of downed trees and other damage in its wake.
The tornado touched down just before 3 a.m. Monday and blew 100 mph winds for around one minute. Many residents were woken up by a loud alert on their cellphones, telling them to seek shelter.
“We thought it was an earthquake, everything was shaking,” said one homeowner. Residents told 7News they are grateful that nobody was injured.
The tornado brought down many trees throughout town, some crashing down on top of cars or into houses. At one house, the force of the tornado was so strong it blew a tree branch through the home’s wall. Officials believe the drought-like conditions in the area meant more trees were brought down.
Thousands are still without power and the town said they hope to have all electricity restored in the next couple of days. In the meantime, people are advised to be careful, especially around any live wires.
