HAMPSTEAD, NEW HAMPSHIRE (WHDH) — A good Samaritan stopped a would-be robber from stealing money from a Hampstead, New Hampshire supermarket.

He also kept the suspect on the scene until police arrived.

The dramatic moments were captured on surveillance video inside the Hannaford Supermarket.

Stephen Spring, 28 of Hampton, was in line buying a back of gum. When the cashier rang it up and opened the register, he pushed the cashier, reached in and grabbed
more than $300 in cash before trying to get away.

The customer behind Spring, Bruce Cabriello, a retired Revere firefighter, shoved the carriage into Spring, tripping him up.

Moment later, several customers jumped on top of him, holding him down until police arrived.

Spring was handcuffed and arrested, later charged with robbery.
