PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island man charged with having tens of thousands of digital images and about 200 videos of child pornography pleaded guilty Friday, federal prosecutors said.

Jason Muschiano, 39, of Woonsocket, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Providence.

The Rhode Island State Police Internet Crimes Against Children task force starting in November 2018 conducted an online child exploitation investigation involving the use of peer-to-peer networks.

As part of that investigation detectives determined that child pornography was being shared by an IP address that belonged to Muschiano, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Aaron Wesiman.

Police executing a court-authorized search warrant at his home last February seized digital storage devices that contained more than 50,000 images and 200 videos depicting child pornography, some involving children as young as 3, prosecutors said.

Muschiano faces up to 20 years in prison at sentencing scheduled for May 22.
