WHITE PLAINS, NY (WHDH) — Just days before Christmas, a paralyzed man in New York is celebrating a special gift.

Rusty Chmelovsky took his first steps Wednesday thanks to a new robotic exoskeleton device.

The former construction worker has been paralyzed for nearly a decade after falling more than 30 feet while on the job.

Now that Chmelovsky can walk, he jokes that he is looking forward to dancing on New Year’s Eve.
