A man was killed and another was seriously injured after a car crash occurred on Route 16 in Errol Thursday night.

According to New Hampshire State Police, the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. in the area known as the “13 Mile Woods”.

When officials arrived, they found a car on the side of the roadway that had struck several trees and come to rest on its passenger side.

The driver of the car, 49-year-old Michael Sheehan of Foxborough, sustained significant injuries. He was taken to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin.

Sheehan’s passenger, 48-year-old Stephen Bagley of Roslindale, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Preliminary investigations showed the car was traveling northbound when it traveled off the left side of the roadway and hit several trees.

According to police, alcohol may have played a factor in the crash.

Sheehan was arrested at Androscoggin Valley Hospital and was charged with negligent homicide. He was released on $10,000 PR bail.

Sheehan was then taken to a Boston area hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crash is encouraged to contact state police at 603-846-3333.
