Police are investigating a shooting that happened in Rowley on Sunday.
The shooting happened in the woods behind a shopping center on Newburyport Turnpike.
Police said they first got a call that shots were fired in the area around 5:15 p.m.
Just as they started searching the area of Route 1, a man walked into the police station and said he had been shot at behind the shopping center, but was not hit.
Then while on scene, police said an 18-year-old man walked up to officers and said he had been shot in the leg. They say he has already been treated and released from the hospital.
Police said no arrests have been made but they have identified a person of interest. They said the suspect is a 16-year-old Rowley resident.
They also said the shooting does not appear to be random.
"Not a random act of violence. Very safe community here. We do believe the subjects known each other. And we’re not concerned for the general safety of the public," said Rowley Police Chief Scott A. Dumas.
Police are trying to locate the person of interest so they can interview them and continue their investigation.
