Animal control in Rutland is looking for two men accused of attacking a family’s dog on Saturday afternoon.

"It makes me sick to my stomach to even think that somebody would do that to my dog," said Alexis Thibodeau, the dog’s owner.

Rutland Regional Animal Control said two men were beating the dog, Abby, with a stick in the front yard of her home on Maple Avenue. When Thibodeau’s friend heard Abby’s cries and ran outside, she said the two men jumped in a black sedan and drove off, shouting racial slurs.

Abby’s injuries were severe enough that she was immediately transported to an emergency veterinarian. She suffered bruising and wounds to her face and Thibodeau said her eye was swollen shut. Abby was brought home Sunday evening.

Animal Control said it appears this attack was targeted. Anyone with information is asked to call the Rutland Police at 508-886-4033.
