A Salem police officer has been placed on administrative leave after he was arrested and charged with possession of oxycodone.

Matthew Scialdone, 35, is a three-year veteran of the Salem Police Department.

On Feb. 24, the Lynn police department notified Salem Police that they had arrested four people after observing a drug transaction.

Scialdone was one of those people.

As a result of the arrest, Scialdone was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings and an internal affairs investigation.

Scialdone appeared in court on Thursday morning.

He was ordered to remain drug free, but will not be subject to random screens.

Scialdone’s boss said there were never any red flags.

He is due back in court on March. 18 for a pre-trial hearing.
