SANDWICH, MASS. (WHDH) - Police rescued a man who suffered a near-drowning incident at Town Neck Beach in Sandwich.

According to officials, police received a call of a person drowning at Town Neck Beach. Sandwich Police and Fire crews responded to the call and found a man unconscious.

The victim, age 34, was face down in the water and had not moved for 3-4 minutes, according to witnesses on the scene.

Bystanders had pulled the man from the water and began performing CPR. The man regained consciousness but was vomiting and having trouble breathing.

Paramedics quickly took the man off the beach and requested a medical helicopter.

The man was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and is in critical condition.

The incident is currently under investigation.
