BOSTON (WHDH) - The Assistant Headmaster of Boston Latin School resigned Wednesday amid fallout from allegations of racism.
Malcolm Flynn’s resignation comes one day after Headmaster Lynne Mooney Teta resigned from the school.
In a Facebook post, Flynn said he’s retiring after spending 52 years working with the Boston Public Schools system.
The school has been under fire for allegations that racially insensitive incidents at the school were not properly addressed.
Boston Public Schools issued a brief statement only acknowledging that they accepted the resignation of the Assistant Head Master.
The back-to-back resignations came amid a federal investigation into allegations of racism at the elite exam school, which Flynn said are not true.
Flynn’s harshest criticism was aimed at Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and School Superintendent Tommy Chang.
Flynn chided them for the lack of support when allegations of racism were made. Flynn now said he can’t work for them.
Walsh and Chang spoke with faculty on Thursday, where he listened to their concerns and promised to keep students’ best interests in mind in the future. Walsh called the atmosphere sad and somber. Chang later rejected Flynn’s criticisms, insisting they’re fully supportive of school administrators.
“A lot of teachers and administrators really respect the work of Lynne Mooney Teta and Malcolm Flynn,” he said.
The Mayor called it a good conversation.
A group gathered on the steps of the school afterward, asking the Mayor to not accept the resignations.
