CHICOPEE, Mass. (AP) — Security forces at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee say they found a small amount of what appeared to be heroin in a commercial vehicle trying to get on the base over the weekend.

The drugs were found in a truck delivering periodicals to the base exchange.

The driver, a New Hampshire man, was turned over to Massachusetts State Police, but there was no immediate word on charges.

A base spokesman says charges are pending based on the investigation.

Security officials said they have intercepted other drugs and drug paraphernalia before, but this was the first time in memory that heroin was seized at a base checkpoint.
