BOSTON (WHDH) - School officials are increasing security after a man was found sleeping at a school in Dorchester on Tuesday.

A teacher said they found the man sleeping in a closet in the Richard J. Murphy School when they arrived for the day around 7:30 a.m. and he fled the area. It’s unclear how the man managed to get inside the building.

At the Boston School Committee meeting Wednesday night, Superintendent Mary Skipper addressed the incident.

“Due to that situation, we are currently assessing through our facility operations all the protocols for accessing buildings,” Skipper said. “To just remind the public and our committee, our school buildings are also community centers in some cases.”

Parents said they were unhappy to learn about the security breach.

“It’s terrifying to think that somebody could get into a school that I send my child to,” one parent said.

Another parent said she was concerned that parents weren’t notified until 2 p.m.

No students came into contact with the person and no one was ever in any danger, school officials said.
